Ocotea catharinensis is a species of plant in the Lauraceae family. An Atlantic rainforest species, it is endemic to Eastern Brazil, its range extending southward from Minas Gerais to Rio Grande do Sul . It is threatened by habitat loss due to its excessive harvesting for both timber and essential oil (linalool). A honey-bearing tree, its fruits are also sought by birds and mammals, including the endangered monkey Brachyteles arachnoides[1].
